Dark Silkie
This is a peated blend with at its core a triple distilled peated single malt which is
matured in sherry casks. This single malt is peated to 55ppm (parts per million) which after the triple distillation results in a phenol level around 22ppm. This is blended with a double distilled single malt matured in bourbon barrels and soft grain whiskey matured in virgin oak casks. Non-chill filtered and bottled at 46% ABV with a RRP of €42.
Omar Fitzell Notes
The peat is there. It’s like walking into a room the morning after an open fire. Lovely sweetness, chocolate covered green apples.
Palate
Chocolate and caramel sweetness. Some sugar coated almonds and the peat continues but it’s mellow.
Finish
Short but warming.
Overall
It’s great to see yet another peated Irish whiskey and just like Bill Phil, this will be the perfect entry into peated whiskey for those who would normally shy away from peat. It’s more smokey with a great deal of sweetness. Very balanced and enjoyable.
Al Higgins notes
Nose
Smoky bacon, beef jerky, new leather, orange oil, 80% dark chocolate, roasted nuts and high roast Java coffee. Yes, it’s
peated!
Palate
Rich, mouth-filling, complex but just a bit youthful and hot. A lovely combination of peat smoke, licorice, chocolate raisins, mocha and orange peel.
Finish
Smoke, leather, caramel chocolates, toasty oak.
Overall
A really good blend that tastes more like an Islay single malt. If you don’t like peat smoke then move along but if you do then this is a must buy. Impressive value for money.
