Irish Whiskey Magazine - Tastings - Method & Madness Single Malt

Method & Madness Single Malt

The new Method and Madness range from Irish Distillers showcases innovation in the Irish whiskey sector. This single malt is initially matured in ex-Bourbon barrels and is part finished in French Limousin oak casks. Bottled at 46% ABV and retails for €79.

Greg Dillon Notes

Nose:

Woof – a lot of fresh fruits, strong perfume notes, apples and a sweet biscuity character. Simply fantastic.

Palate:

The palate develops the sweet perfume notes further to include a strong herbal note, a good fresh oaky character, hints of vanilla, a really nice whiskey and like nothing I’ve tried before. The French Limousin oak has taken it up a notch.

Finish:

A lovely dry and fruity finish, medium length, with lingering oakiness.

Overall:

At the launch, Billy Leighton, IDL Master Blender said “this has been a good bit of fun… lots of work to understand different oak from France and we decided to go with Limousin for this as it made the most amount of sense for the flavour”. And wow does it

Michael Foggarty Notes

Nose:

Slight floral notes give way to some crunchy nut  cornflakes and a good lash of malt.

Palate:

Mouth coating. The distillery trade mark banana is much
lighter here, touches of some honey sweetness and some biscuits notes.

Finish:

The malt lingers around for a long time with the honey notes that will have you returning to the bottle for some more joy.

Overall:

When the four whiskeys in the Method and Madness
range were released it may have been one of the others that stole the show, but that leaves this little cracker for the rest of us. It great to see innovation and Irish Distillers continue to lead on that front and its clearly
evident here with the use of French Limousin oak casks.
