Irish Whiskey Magazine - Tastings - Pearse Distillers Choice

Pearse Distillers Choice

One of four new releases from the new Pearse brand. This is a blend of Irish grain and malt whiskeys ranging in age from 4 to 9 years, predominantly from
Cooley but also contains some malt whiskey from their own stills. Bottled at
42% ABV and a RRP of €45.

Greg Dillon Notes

Lemon, feinty, pears, apricots, spicy, pine needles, hints of Christmas fruits, herbal – nice nose, well rounded.

Very oaky, so smooth, stewed apples and pears, warming spices, lovely toffee apple notes punching through with time. Less herbaceous than the nose, really nicely balanced.

Short, spicy, soft and subtle fruit notes keep going with a vanilla citrusy character.

A good blended whiskey, a sipping whiskey – lots of flavour and depth, once to share with friends, or to enjoy in a cocktail but probably not one to dwell on for too long…

Michael Foggarty Notes

Lots of charred oak, toffee apples and candyfloss from the fair.

I feel like I’m on the carousel at the funfair being bold eating my toffee apple whilst hold a stick of candyfloss in the other hand. These flavours are going round and round my mouth.

The ride slows down, my toffee apple is finished and my candyfloss has blown away in the wind. The finish is dry but the charred oak makes a return.

It’s a lovely whiskey. Pearse have recently launched four whiskeys and this is the best of the bunch but there is as always room for improvement.
