Irish Whiskey Magazine - Tastings - DWD Heritage Edition

DWD Heritage Edition

Launched by independent bottler Whiskey Distillery Company Ltd. in October
this year, this revives the famous Dublin Whiskey Distillery brand which fell
silent over 70 years ago. This blend is bottled at ABV of 40% and carries a RRP of €48.

Greg Dillon Notes

Nose:

Very sweet, strong banana note – like lovely and ripe bananas on toast, with a nice toasted oak note giving this
whiskey a really interesting character.

Palate:

Creamy, less sweet than the nose, but still very soft, balanced and pangs of fruit with each sip. The oak char is giving off a lovely vanilla note, along with soft, unassuming spices.

Finish:

Incredibly short, quite spicy.

Overall:

A good, solid whiskey, would not think of it as one of my
favourites, but there is enough flavour here to keep you interested, but more of a drinker, than one to ponder over.

Michael Foggarty Notes

Nose:

Quite spirituous, very feint nutty aromas.

Palate:

Really opens up after a few sips. This whiskey needs time
to show its colours. Sweet grain, lots of toffee and  butterscotch. Honey coats the taste buds but is not cloying.

Finish:

Tannic oak hangs around along with honey.

Overall:

Great to see on old brand being revived but it will be
much better if we get to see a distillery in the future bearing the iconic DWD name.
