Clonakilty Single Batch Blend
Double Gold winner at the San Francisco Spirits Competition 2019, this is a blend of 8 year old grain and 10 year old single malt finished in ex-Bourbon casks. Bottled at 43.6%, non-chill filtered and naturally coloured. RRP €51.
Omar Fitzell Notes
Light, floral and sweet. Caramel and vanilla steal the nose.
Palate:
Light mouthfeel. I cut the lawn this evening and I’m wondering if it’s that or the whiskey I’m tasting! Sweet apples, pear and toffee all folded into a slight spice package.
Finish:
Medium. Spice continues with a slight nuttiness.
Overall:
While it’s obvious that this has a high percentage of grain, it carries it well. Obviously both the malt and the grain are good stock. Really enjoyed this as an easy drinker and look forward to more from Clonakilty.
Al Higgins notes
Nose:
Clean, crisp and delicate. Very grain dominated. Another whiskey in this flight dominated by green, herbaceous aromas. Mint, herb and citrus with a little vanilla.
Palate:
Mouth-watering and soft. Thankfully the palate is less grain dominated and there and interesting things ahead. Flavours of spiced fruits, almonds, vanilla, citrus fruits and honey.
Finish:
Quite short but with pleasing fruity notes.
Overall:
A little too heavy on the grain content for me.
