Press Release
Currach Single Malt Irish Whiskey is a true innovation in the world of whiskey, and the first to be finished in seaweed charred casks. To celebrate this unique creation, we have partnered with Western Herd Brewing Co to create a bespoke Currach Single Malt Irish Whiskey, Cask Strength, Single Cask bottling exclusively for the Irish market.
Made from 100% Irish malted barley, it is a triple distilled single malt Irish whiskey, initially matured in 1st fill American oak ex-bourbon barrels before being finished in Atlantic Wakame seaweed charred virgin American oak casks. For this special bottling we have then given the whiskey an additional finishing in a cask seasoned with Western Herd’s award-winning Flora & Fauna Double IPA.
The additional IPA cask finish adds wonderful earthy, dank, pine and pineapple notes to the unique briny yet sweet maritime notes and green tea undertones from the Wakame charred casks. This limited-edition bottling is non-chill filtered, with no caramel colouring, and is bottled at natural cask strength (56.7% alc./vol.)
The single cask bottle is packed in a bespoke radiata pine wooden gift box with product description.
To coincide with the launch, Western Herd Brewing Co. will be releasing a very limited-edition barrel-aged Flora and Fauna double IPA finished in a Currach Wakame Seaweed Cask. (9.45% alc./vol.) www.westernherd.com
Patrick Shelley, founder of Origin Spirits and Currach Single Malt Whiskey, says;
“It has been really exciting working with Bridger and the team at Western Herd and it has produced one of our the most impressive and unique single casks to date. Western Herd’s Flora and Fauna Double IPA works wonderfully with our cask strength Currach Wakame. We’re thrilled with the result.”
Bridger Kelleher, Western Herd Brewing Co. says;
“At Western Herd Brewing we are so excited for the release of this exciting collaboration! Ever since we first brewed Flora and Fauna we had the notions to produce a barrel aged version, but we wanted it to be special and unique. When we first discussed a collab with the team at Currach we came to the same conclusion almost simultaneously. The Currach Irish Whiskey Wakame cask and Flora and Fauna were a match made in heaven! We couldn’t be happier with how either turned out and we couldn’t be more excited for everyone to try it!”
