The Shed Distillery of PJ Rigney Drumshanbo launches special 7 year old Drumshanbo Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey Marsala Cask Edition

It has taken 7 years of slow maturation in exquisite Sicilian Marsala casks to receive the seal of approval from Head Distiller Brian Taft. Every precious drop of this Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey has been triple-distilled with malted and un-malted Irish Barley, and uniquely Irish Barra Oats at The Shed Distillery of PJ Rigney in Drumshanbo, Co Leitrim.

Brian Taft intricately manages every step of the slow distillation process by hand, carefully balancing only the highest quality ingredients through milling and fermentation and intricately guiding each distillation with detailed attention to subtle temperature and timing adjustments to ensure first-class whiskey.

Since 2017, it has been resting in Marsala casks, carefully selected by Brian and Distillery Founder PJ Rigney and brought over to The Shed Distillery from Sicily, where they had previously held delectable Marsala wine.

After maturing for more than 7 years, the distinctive character and depth of taste gradually evolved to meet Brian Taft’s unrivalled standards of authenticity and quality. Brian will never rush a whiskey to a deadline and continued to taste from the casks at monthly, sometimes weekly intervals, until it perfectly balanced the different flavours and aromas from the Pot Still, the cask wood and the Marsala Wine itself. There is no added colour nor any chill filtration, the deep amber liquid developing gradually over the years.

Distilling since 2014, the whiskey ethos at The Shed Distillery, prioritises exceptional quality over quantity and all whiskey is made in small batches and never rushed to deadline.

PJ Rigney, Founder, The Shed Distillery of PJ Rigney, said:

“When the ambition is to create world-class Irish Whiskey, there can be no deadline. We as curators must be patient as truly extraordinary whiskeys evolve at their own pace.”.

The Shed Distillery’s Drumshanbo Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey has received a remarkable international response since its inaugural release in 2019 and was named one of the top 20 whiskeys in the world by ‘WHISKEY ADVOCAT’. It was named best Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey’ at the 2023 Irish Whiskey Awards and The Shed Distillery was named International Distiller of the Year at the prestigious 2022 Wine Enthusiast awards in San Francisco where Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin also won the overall award for best international spirit of the year.

Rich notes of clove and honey descend into subtle aromas of sun ripened fruit and toasty caramel.

Sumptuous, dried fruits, and hazelnuts with distinctive oak spice balanced deliciously with the influences of the delectable Marsala cask.

A delicate sweetness of spiced caramel, roasted hazelnut and raisin that lingers lightly on the tongue.
