With so much interest in Irish whiskey and with Waterford currently having two distilleries, Waterford Distillery and Blackwater Distillery, it only seemed fitting that there should be a local whiskey society. As anyone involved in organising any society, putting that in place is no small task. It was the brainchild of two enthusiastic whiskey lovers, Val Voit and Tony Maguinness, and with the assistance of Regina, Janice, David, and others, the society has become a reality.
They have held two events to date. Their inaugural event was held on 29th January in the Revolution Bar where Irish Distillers Brand Ambassador Ger Garland presented the Redbreast range to almost 50 attendees.
Their second event took place in February in Davy Mac’s bar and was another great success where Kilbeggan Distillery Brand Ambassador Stephen Magennis showcased six of their whiskeys, two from Kilbeggan range, two from the Connemara Range and two from the Tyrconnell Range. They plan to hold monthly events and include a number of distillery visits. They have received great support both from the local pubs and community.
