New entrant to Irish whiskey, May Lóag Spirits, unveils new releases

Press Release

Inspired by the rolling drumlins of the ancient Kingdom of Oriel, May-Lóag takes its name from the Irish
colloquial phrase meaning, ‘the one that stands out from the crowd’. May-Lóag Whiskeys aim to do exactly that, through our stunning decanter style bottle and bolt stopper, reflecting the Old Carrick Mill’s industrial history alongside the local legend of the Black Ram of Derrylavan.

Mark Craig, Brand Manager, May-Lóag Spirits said:

“May-Lóag Spirits are proud to introduce a new range of Irish Whiskeys, alongside our unique Irish Pink Gin, distilled with Dragonfruit. The revised range, now in a stunning new bottle, will undoubtedly quickly become a favourite for back-bars and at home drinks cabinets.”

Local folklore around the Old Mill at Derrylavan tells of a mischievous black ram, known to roam the oak groves along the ancient route from Carrickmacross to Bailieborough. One particular spot, where travellers crossed the stream at the Ford of Beal na Meala was said to be where the Ram was known to indulge in rascality; often sneaking up on an unsuspecting victim, and with a dunt of his horns, send them headlong into the stream below. This sense of mischief continues to shine through May-Lóag’s rebellious personality today.

Steven Murphy, Founder, May-Lóag Spirits said:

“May-Lóag Irish Whiskeys stay true to our quest to stand out from the crowd. We are proud to often do things differently, hand crafting unique taste profiles to offer something a little different for the whiskey drinker. Our bold use of barrel finishes and combinations of fine malts and grain spirits result in an exciting, yet approachable range to entice customers of all tastes.”

The range, launching early October 2021 across NI and ROI, will be available via independent off sales and online retail.

Distilled and matured in Ireland for The Old Carrick Mill Distillery, Derrylavan, County Monaghan.
