It’s been a great few days for Sliabh Liag Distillery, Co. Donegal.

In addition to a successful crowdfunding campaign to complete a new distillery, Sliabh Liag also released their first cask strength Irish whiskey.

The Dark Silkie was launched quietly last week but the news quickly spread amongst social media circles and the last bottle sold yesterday.

The Dark Silkie is a peated Irish whiskey blend bottled at 64.5% ABV and limited to just 210 individually numbered bottles. Peated certainly seems to be one of the latest trends in Irish whiskey, a throwback to the times when a large proportion of Irish whiskey would have had an element of peatiness. Combine that with the other emerging trend of higher ABV and cask strength releases, this turned out to be a winning combination. The sourced blend was on sale for €75 from their website.

With planning permission approved, their stills ordered and funding in place, Sliabh Liag is committed to producing only peated Pot Still Irish whiskey and peated Irish whiskey using historic mash bills.
